Individual racer performance is determined by a racer's finish order or rank per gender.  The shorter the time, the higher the rank.  The rankings of the top 6 finishers for each team are summarized to determine team score.  Teams are then ranked based on their score, lower the better, and receive points accordingly.  .75 points for 1st, 2 points for 2nd, 3 points for 3rd, etc. 

At the end of the season, the top ~16 girls and top ~16 boys qualify to compete in the state championships and schools with 3 or more qualifying racers also compete as a team.
